Before I tell you the story of how I almost met Ed Sheeran, I’m going to tell you the back story. Let me start off by saying that I love Ed Sheeran. When his latest album first came out, it was all that I listened to for at least two weeks. When he released his tour dates, I sat down and started planning how many I could go to. I really wanted to see him on my birthday, but he was going to be in Brazil and the airplane tickets were insanely expensive. So instead of doing that, I decided to see him in Texas.
The presale for his tickets was during my spring break. While we were in Colorado, my family and I sat in our condo with every laptop and phone available to us. Once the tickets were released, we all tried to get some on every device. Thankfully, we were able to get some and we actually ended up getting tickets in both Houston and San Antonio. I got to see Ed Sheeran twice!

I saw him first in Houston at the Toyota Center. My friend and I drove down from College Station and got ready at my house. My skirt and shoes are from Francesca’s, a.k.a my absolute favorite store. My shirt is from Pretty Little Things, a local boutique near Houston. Once we were dressed and ready, we drove downtown, ate dinner, and headed over to the concert. We bought an overpriced T-shirt outside then went inside to find some AC and our seats. James Blunt opened for him and, although I didn’t really know James Blunt, I loved his music! There was one song I knew, and I’m sure you will know it too. It’s called You’re Beautiful. Anyways, he was funny and a really good opening act. But let’s be real, we were all there to see Ed Sheeran!

Ed Sheeran did not disappoint. He is absolutely amazing in concert. He is on the stage all by himself, no band or anything. Just Ed and a guitar. Since he doesn’t have a band, he uses a loop pedal for all his live songs. He will record the guitar part, then he’ll record the drum part by hitting his guitar, then he’ll record the backup vocals, then he’ll start singing the song. He has more talent in his pinky than I have in my whole body. I lost my voice after that concert from singing every lyric to every song at the top of my lungs. I couldn’t wait to do it all over again a few days later in San Antonio!
Tuesday afternoon, my friend and I loaded up the car and drove to San Antonio. We got ready at the hotel and you’ll never guess where my outfit is from. Yep, Francesca’s and Pretty Little Things. My earrings and necklace are from Francesca’s and my shirt and shorts are from Pretty Little Things. My friend got her shirt from Forever 21 and borrowed my skirt from Target. Once we were all prettied up, we ate at this awesome Italian restaurant called Paesano’s on the Riverwalk then took an Uber to the concert. James Blunt had basically the same show, which I enjoyed seeing again. But, Ed Sheeran changed it up a little bit and oh my goodness it was even better than Houston. I was so excited to see him again that I broke my necklace during the first song!
Here is where it starts getting good – we are almost to the story of how I almost met him. Our hotel was a really nice hotel. I say that not only because I thought it was cool, but because a lot of celebrities have stayed there too. There was a wall near the elevators that had all these glass oranges (at least I think they were oranges) signed by famous people. Carrie Underwood, J. Lo, and Snoop Dog had all stayed there. We joked about how if Ed Sheeran stayed there he should sign one. We were only joking at this time.
When the concert was over, we went back to our hotel and headed to the bar area. We weren’t ready for the concert to be over so we cranked up some Ed Sheeran tunes on our phones and kept on singing. We were pretty loud, the people around us probably thought we were crazy. Once we had eaten all of our food and finished our drinks, we called it a night.
The next morning, I go to pick up my car from the valet. We are standing right outside the hotel. There is a black SUV and a truck behind it. Neither one of them have been moved and my friend and I are wondering why they don’t move. The valet won’t be able to pull up my car. As we are standing there, I notice someone walk out of the hotel.
Cue The Tears
I glance up. I see the tattoos. I see the red hair. I recognize his face. I’m frozen. I can’t move. I can’t say anything. Tears are rolling down my face. He jumped in the SUV and it, along with the truck, drove off.
The man who got me through high school (which were three rather miserable years of my life) just walked right past me. Y’all. I’m not one to get star struck or fangirl over someone famous, but Ed Sheeran is totally different. He was literally just right there. He stayed in the same hotel as me. He probably heard us singing loudly in the bar. He probably laughed at us.
Y’all. This is the highlight of my life. After the SUV and truck drove off, I called my mom (while still crying of course). She hears in my voice that I’m crying and the first thing she asks is if I was in a wreck. My response went something like this: “No, *sniffles* Ed Sheeran *gulps for air* just walked *sniffles again* right past me” *completely breaks down*.
You see that glistening under my eyes? Tears. And that was taken like 30 minutes after he walked by me.
I’m still not over this. I probably never will be. So, that’s my story of how I almost met Ed Sheeran. Maybe if I would’ve been able to say something I could say I had actually met him. I guess I’ll just have to keep trying to get meet and greet tickets!
