I love seeing the back to school signs going up in stores! There’s something about buying new planners, notebooks, and pens that I love. What I don’t love though, is the price. My budget just doesn’t match what I want to buy. Thankfully, there are many back to school discounts and I’ve listed a few of my favorites!
Some dorm and apartment complexes provide furniture for the rooms. If not, you may find yourself on the hunt for a desk or a filing cabinet. Thankfully, Office Depot has 40% off select furniture that you will need for your apartment or dorm room! To make this deal even better, you get free delivery!
Office Depot also has everything you need for back to school! From school supplies to cleaning supplies to technology, you can find it here. I love stores where I can get everything I need in one trip. When I first moved to college, I got my planner, pens, stapler, notebooks and filing cabinet from here. During the school year, I made many trips back for pens, pencils, and the like. They have tons of back to school deals in store and online so be sure to check it out!

I absolutely love shopping at Target. I can go in there for one thing and leave with five. Don’t act like you don’t do it too! I got the cutest dishes (search “floral ceramic dinnerware collection”) from Target and I got a lot of my decorations from Nate Berkus’s collection. I ordered a lot of my stuff online because I didn’t want to have to deal with the crowds and because my dishes were only available online. This week ( August 13th – August 19th), Target has many great deals that will be going on! Check them out!

There are three main places I look when searching for textbooks. I compare prices between Barnes and Noble, Better World Books, and Amazon. I also look at how much I could sell them back for and whether it’s cheaper to rent.
Barnes and Noble
My favorite thing about Barnes and Noble is that they have a Starbucks right inside the store. I also love the prices! You can find new & used textbooks for up to 90% off. Talk about a steal! If you are looking to buy a new textbook, you can get free shipping for textbooks over $25. A sale and free shipping? It’s great! Barnes and Noble also has tons of school supplies to get you ready for the semester ahead!
Better World Books
Better World Books is another great place to shop for your textbooks. They also have up to 90% off on textbooks and free shipping! My favorite thing about this site is that, as the name suggests, they are using books to make the world a better place. For every book sold, this company donates a book to someone in need. They also help libraries and schools with their literacy grants. This company is doing great things in the world and great things for your bank account!
Amazon has a special place in my heart mainly because of the free two-day shipping with Amazon Prime. The best part is that college students can get Prime Student for FREE with an email address from their school. The free part only last for six months, but afterward prime is half price for college students. If you order everything off of Amazon like me, paying for prime will end up saving you a lot in shipping! I also rent a lot of my textbooks from Amazon because I can save up to 90%. They have really great prices and free two-day shipping. What’s not to love?

Back to school shopping isn’t just about pens, furniture, and textbooks! You need an adorable wardrobe so you can be excited about waking up, getting dressed, and taking on the day. Francesca’s is one of my favorite places to shop.Remember my post about my summer capsule wardrobe? Most of the clothes in that list are from Francesca’s. Not only do they have the cutest styles, their sale section is AMAZING! I recently bought two sweaters, a mug, two scarves, a baseball cap, a makeup pouch, and a wine glass all for a little over $50. They have something for every budget!
Walmart has just about anything you could want for a great price! I love shopping here because they have low prices and the will match a lower price if you find it. They have tons of back to school deals on everything from backpacks, to school supplies, to dorm decorations. You could honestly find everything you need (minus textbooks) at Walmart and you can find it all for a great price. Check out their selection and celebrate that you are saving money!
Student ID Card
My favorite discount is a student discount! Anytime you’re shopping, be sure to have your student ID with you. The majority of stores will have a student discount if you show your student ID or sign up with your student email. This can be super helpful for staying on budget. Things like computers cost a lot! But when I got mine at Best Buy, I got a student discount on my new lap top. Sometimes stores won’t have a student discount or you can’t use it with another discount, but it never hurts to ask!
I hope these deals were helpful and that your back to school shopping goes well! How do you save money when shopping for your back to school supplies? Let me know in the comments!
