Here in Texas, it is hot. All. The. Time. I wish I could say I am exaggerating, but you literally step outside and start sweating. Texas also likes to be hot practically year round. This means that I own a lot of summer clothes and paring them down was not the easiest feat. But, I managed to create a capsule wardrobe perfect for those hot, summer (and fall and spring) days!

At the end of this post is the list of what I had left in my closet after organizing it. I took out all my winter clothes and was left with my summer capsule wardrobe. Before you read through my list, I’m going to breakdown why I chose each piece of clothing. Since I can only have a limited number, I have to make sure each piece has a purpose.

I have a lot of tank tops mainly because heat equals sweat which equals pit stains which equals not cute! All of them are either neutral colors or in my color scheme except for three. Those three shirts I still wear and are in good condition so even though they don’t technically fit into my capsule wardrobe, I don’t want to let a good shirt go to waste! Plus, they add a little extra variety.
Next, we have my short sleeved shirts which are again all either neutral or in my color scheme except for the last three. I am keeping those three for the same reason I am keeping my three oddball tanks. I would like to add a basic white t-shirt and a basic black t-shirt to this category, but I will save that the next sale! My absolute favorite sale to shop is at Francesca’s. I recently got 8 items for a little of $50!
In my bottoms section, I have shorts, skirts, and jeans. In high school, we weren’t allowed to wear yoga pants and I hated wearing jeans so I invested heavily in skirts. Even though I can now wear BOTH yoga pants and Nike shorts to school, I still throw on a skirt quite often. It’s easy and comfortable, a win-win! I included jeans since I will need to throw on a pair every once in a while, whether it be for work or a nice dinner.
I also have a soft spot in my heart for overalls, possibly because, unlike most women’s jeans and shorts, it has a HUGE pocket on the front. No need to even bring a purse when you wear overalls! You’ll see overalls make another appearance in my winter capsule wardrobe.
As much as I love the ease of skirts, I think I love dresses and rompers even more. You don’t even have to try and match anything – just put it on, add some jewelry, slip on some shoes, and you’re out the door. They can be dressed up or dressed down and are perfect for any occasion.
While I have a lot of summer clothes, I don’t have as many summer shoes. This really helped when having to choose which pairs to include in my capsule wardrobe. For shoes, I stuck with neutral colors that can go with anything making sure to include both flats and heels.
I hope this has helped you as you plan your summer capsule wardrobe! Below is my list for this season’s capsule wardrobe!
